Terms of Service

Community Standards — Zero Tolerance

RTC Collector has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. By creating an account you agree to these Terms and to our Acceptable Use Policy (Section 6 below).

Content that is illegal, harassing, threatening, discriminatory, sexually explicit, violent, hateful, spammy, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable is prohibited. We review reports promptly and will remove offending content and terminate accounts that post it.

You can report objectionable content from any post, comment, message, listing, or profile via the menu / flag icon on each item. You can block abusive users from their profile or from a conversation. Blocked users cannot contact you or see your content.

Operating Entity

RTC Collector is a service operated by RetroTechCollection.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of RTC Collector. By accessing or using our website, mobile applications, or services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. In these Terms, "we", "us", and "our" refer to RetroTechCollection, the operating company.

If you don't agree with any part of these Terms, you shouldn't use RTC Collector.

1. About RTC Collector

RTC Collector is a platform for cataloging, managing, and trading retro technology collections. We provide tools for inventory management, marketplace transactions, social features, and data analytics related to vintage computing and gaming equipment.

RetroTechCollection is based in the United Kingdom and operates under UK law. Our registered office address is available upon request.

2. Your Account

Registration

To use most features, you need to create an account. When you register, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old, or have parental consent if you're between 13 and 18
  • Provide accurate information (email address, username)
  • Keep your password secure
  • Not share your account with anyone else
  • Not create multiple accounts to evade bans or restrictions

You're responsible for everything that happens through your account. If you think someone else is using your account, tell us immediately at [email protected].

Username Requirements

Your username:

  • Must be unique
  • Can't impersonate others or be offensive
  • Can be changed once every 30 days
  • Becomes available for others if your account is deleted

We reserve the right to reclaim usernames that violate these Terms or are inactive for extended periods.

3. Subscriptions and Payments

Subscription Tiers

We offer three tiers:

  • Hobbyist (Free) — Limited features for casual use
  • Collector — Enhanced features for serious collectors
  • Enthusiast — Full access to all features

Prices are in GBP and exclude VAT where applicable. If you're in the UK or EU, VAT will be added at checkout.

How you pay depends on where you subscribe:

  • On the web (rtccollector.com or rtccollector.app in a desktop / mobile browser) and the Android app, subscriptions are billed through Stripe. Payment methods, billing history, and cancellation are managed from your account settings.
  • On the iOS app (downloaded from the Apple App Store), subscriptions are billed through Apple In-App Purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple Account, and your subscription is managed through iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, not through our app.

A subscription purchased through one channel does not automatically cover the others — it unlocks the same tier features, but the billing relationship exists with whichever provider (Stripe or Apple) took the payment. Accidentally paying twice (once via Stripe, once via Apple) results in two separate subscriptions; cancel the one you don't want.

Web and Android Billing (Stripe)

When you subscribe to a paid plan through the web or Android app:

  • You'll be charged immediately for the first billing period (after any free trial ends)
  • Billing repeats monthly or annually on the same day, depending on the plan you chose
  • We'll try to notify you before price increases, but continued use means you accept the new price
  • Payment is processed through Stripe; we don't store your card details

iOS Billing (Apple In-App Purchase)

If you subscribe through the iOS app, the following Apple-mandated terms apply in addition to these Terms:

  • Auto-renewal: Your subscription is an auto-renewing subscription. Payment will be charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase, and the subscription automatically renews at the same price and plan unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Renewal charges: Your Apple Account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the price shown when you subscribed (or any updated price Apple has surfaced to you and which you have consented to).
  • Free trials: If your subscription includes a free trial, any unused portion of the free trial is forfeited when you purchase a paid subscription. Apple enforces trial eligibility at the Apple ID level — if you have previously used a trial on this tier, Apple will not offer you another one.
  • Cancelling on iOS: You can cancel at any time by opening iOS Settings → Apple ID (your name at the top) → Subscriptions → RTC Collector, and tapping Cancel Subscription. To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • Managing your plan on iOS: Upgrades, downgrades, and switches between monthly and annual billing are handled inside the iOS Subscriptions sheet. Our app will deep-link you to the correct Apple screen when you tap "Manage subscription".

Cancellation and Refunds

Cancelling your subscription:

  • Web and Android subscribers: cancel at any time from your account settings. You keep access until the end of your current billing period; your subscription won't renew.
  • iOS subscribers: cancel through iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the current period ends. You keep access until the end of that period.

In all cases, when your subscription ends:

  • Your data remains accessible
  • You'll lose paid-tier features but keep everything you've already added to your collection
  • You can re-subscribe at any time

Refunds:

  • Web and Android (Stripe): we don't offer refunds for partial months. If you believe you've been charged incorrectly, contact [email protected] within 14 days and we'll investigate.
  • iOS (Apple In-App Purchase): refund requests for subscriptions purchased through Apple must be made directly to Apple. We don't have the ability to refund Apple charges. Use reportaproblem.apple.com to open a refund request with Apple. Apple reviews each request at its own discretion.

Downgrades

If you downgrade to a lower tier and your collection exceeds the new limits:

  • You can view all items but can't add new ones until you're under the limit
  • Some features will become unavailable
  • Your data won't be deleted
  • You can upgrade again anytime

On iOS, downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period (Apple's convention). On web and Android, the new tier takes effect immediately with a prorated credit applied to the next invoice.

Discount Codes

Promotional discount codes can only be redeemed on web and Android subscriptions billed through Stripe. They cannot be applied to iOS In-App Purchase subscriptions — Apple's payment system does not support third-party discount codes at checkout. If we run an iOS-specific promotion it will be delivered through Apple's own Introductory Offer and Promotional Offer mechanisms inside the App Store.

4. Using the Marketplace

General Rules

The marketplace lets you buy, sell, or trade items with other users. When using the marketplace:

  • You must be 18 or older
  • Listings must be accurate and honest
  • You're responsible for items you sell
  • You must follow through on accepted offers
  • You handle shipping and delivery yourself
  • We facilitate payments but aren't party to your transactions

Prohibited Items

You can't list:

  • Stolen goods or items you don't have legal right to sell
  • Counterfeits or reproductions falsely advertised as authentic
  • Items that violate intellectual property rights
  • Illegal items under UK law
  • Items prohibited by payment processors (weapons, adult content, etc.)
  • Items that pose safety risks

We'll remove prohibited listings and may suspend accounts for violations.

Seller Requirements

To receive payments, you must:

  • Complete Stripe Connect onboarding
  • Provide accurate identity information
  • Have a valid bank account
  • Comply with tax obligations in your jurisdiction

Buyer Protection

When you buy through the marketplace:

  • Payments go through Stripe's secure platform
  • Money is held until you confirm receipt or the dispute window closes
  • You can open a dispute if items don't match descriptions or don't arrive
  • Refunds (if approved) go back to your original payment method

Seller Obligations

When you sell:

  • Ship items promptly (within timeframes stated in your listing)
  • Provide tracking information when available
  • Respond to buyer messages within 2 business days
  • Pack items securely
  • Describe items accurately and honestly

Failing to meet these obligations repeatedly may result in marketplace suspension.

5. User Content

What You Post

You're responsible for everything you upload, post, or share on RTC Collector. This includes:

  • Collection item details and images
  • Marketplace listings
  • Messages to other users
  • Profile information
  • Reviews and ratings

By posting content, you confirm that:

  • You own it or have permission to use it
  • It doesn't violate anyone else's rights (copyright, trademark, privacy, etc.)
  • It's accurate to the best of your knowledge
  • It doesn't break any laws

License to Us

When you post content, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display it on the platform, make it available to other users, make technical copies for backups and performance, and resize or reformat images for different devices.

You keep ownership of your content. This license ends when you delete the content or close your account, except for copies in backups which we'll delete according to our retention schedule.

What We Can Remove

We can remove content if it:

  • Violates these Terms
  • Infringes intellectual property
  • Is illegal
  • Is spam or misleading
  • Is reported by other users and we determine it's inappropriate
  • Poses security risks to our platform or users

We'll try to notify you if we remove your content, but aren't required to.

6. Acceptable Use

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. Don't use RTC Collector to:

  • Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
  • Post racist, sexist, or discriminatory content
  • Post sexually explicit, violent, hateful, or otherwise objectionable material
  • Impersonate others
  • Spam or send unsolicited marketing
  • Scrape data or use automated tools without permission
  • Attempt to hack, disrupt, or damage our systems
  • Manipulate ratings or reviews
  • Create fake listings or shill bid
  • Circumvent any restrictions we've placed on your account
  • Violate any applicable laws

We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate acceptable use, with or without warning depending on severity. Use the flag icon next to any post, comment, message, listing, or profile to report objectionable content, and use the Block button on a user's profile to prevent them from contacting you.

7. Intellectual Property

Our Rights

RTC Collector, our logo, and our original content are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. You can't use them without written permission.

The platform's code, design, and functionality are our property. You can't copy, modify, or reverse engineer them.

Third Party Content

Some features integrate with Wikipedia and other third-party sources. This content belongs to its respective owners and may be licensed under different terms.

If you believe something on RTC Collector infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with:

  • Your contact details
  • Description of the copyrighted work
  • Location of the infringing content on our platform
  • A statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized
  • A statement that your notice is accurate and you're authorized to act
  • Your physical or electronic signature

We'll investigate and take appropriate action, which may include removing the content. If you repeatedly post infringing content, we'll terminate your account.

8. Privacy and Data

We collect and process your data as described in our Privacy Policy. By using RTC Collector, you consent to this processing.

Key points:

  • We collect what's necessary to provide the service
  • We don't sell your personal data
  • You can export your data anytime
  • You can request deletion (subject to legal requirements)
  • We comply with UK GDPR

9. Third Party Services

We use third-party services including:

  • Stripe for payment processing on the web and Android app
  • Apple for In-App Purchase payment processing on the iOS app
  • RevenueCat for iOS subscription lifecycle tracking (receipt validation, renewal / cancellation / refund notifications)
  • Email service providers for notifications
  • Cloud hosting providers

These services have their own terms and privacy policies. We're not responsible for them, but we choose reputable providers.

When you click external links (like Wikipedia), you're subject to those sites' terms.

10. Disputes Between Users

If you have a problem with another user:

  1. Try to resolve it directly through our messaging system
  2. If that doesn't work, you can open a formal dispute through your transaction page
  3. We'll review evidence from both sides
  4. We'll make a decision within 7 business days
  5. Our decision is final

We're not judges or arbitrators. We facilitate the dispute process but can't force users to take specific actions. If we determine a seller failed to deliver or a buyer made false claims, we may refund, suspend accounts, or take other action.

For items bought outside our marketplace, we can't help with disputes.

11. Termination

By You

You can close your account anytime from settings. When you close your account:

  • Your public content may remain visible until we process the deletion (usually within 30 days)
  • Your subscription cancels
  • You can request complete data deletion
  • Some data may be retained for legal/accounting purposes

By Us

We can suspend or terminate your account if:

  • You violate these Terms
  • You engage in fraudulent activity
  • Your account is inactive for more than 2 years
  • We're required to by law
  • We discontinue the service (with reasonable notice)

If we terminate for violations, you may not be eligible for refunds.

12. Disclaimers

RTC Collector is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we don't warrant uninterrupted or error-free service, don't guarantee user-generated content accuracy, aren't responsible for data loss, don't verify marketplace item authenticity, and don't guarantee transaction completion.

You use RTC Collector at your own risk.

13. Limitation of Liability

Under UK law, we can't limit liability for:

  • Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
  • Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
  • Any other liability that can't be limited by law

Subject to that, our total liability to you is limited to:

  • The amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or
  • £100 (whichever is greater)

We're not liable for:

  • Lost profits or business opportunities
  • Loss of data (unless caused by our negligence)
  • Indirect or consequential losses
  • Issues arising from third-party services
  • Disputes between users
  • Your tax obligations

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your use of the platform, content you post, violation of these Terms, violation of others' rights, and marketplace transactions.

This means if someone sues us because of something you did, you're responsible for the costs and damages.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. When we do:

  • We'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top
  • For material changes, we'll notify you by email or platform notification at least 30 days before they take effect
  • Continuing to use RTC Collector after changes means you accept them
  • If you don't agree with changes, close your account before they take effect

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except:

  • You can bring claims in your own country if you're a consumer under local law
  • We can seek injunctive relief in any jurisdiction if necessary to protect our rights

17. General

Severability: If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.

No Waiver: If we don't enforce a right, that doesn't mean we've waived it.

Assignment: You can't transfer these Terms. We can assign them to a successor (like if we're acquired).

Entire Agreement: These Terms, along with our Privacy Policy and other referenced policies, constitute the entire agreement between us.

Force Majeure: We're not liable for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control (natural disasters, war, government action, network failures, etc.).

Survival: Sections that should reasonably survive termination (like intellectual property, liability limitations, and dispute resolution) continue after your account closes.

18. Additional Terms for Apple App Store Users

If you obtained the RTC Collector app from the Apple App Store, the following additional terms apply to your use of the iOS app. These terms are required by Apple and supplement, rather than replace, the rest of these Terms:

  • Relationship with Apple: These Terms are between you and RetroTechCollection only. Apple Inc. is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the app or its content.

  • Scope of Licence: Apple grants you a limited, non-transferable licence to use the RTC Collector app on any Apple-branded device you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

  • Maintenance and Support: RetroTechCollection is solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support services for the app. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to provide any maintenance or support services for the app.

  • Warranty: RetroTechCollection is solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. In the event of any failure of the app to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the app to you. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple will have no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to any warranty will be RetroTechCollection's sole responsibility.

  • Product Claims: RetroTechCollection, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app or your use of it, including (i) product liability claims, (ii) any claim that the app fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement, and (iii) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation.

  • Intellectual Property Rights: In the event of any third-party claim that the app or your possession and use of the app infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, RetroTechCollection (not Apple) will be solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, and discharge of any such intellectual property infringement claim.

  • Legal Compliance: You represent and warrant that (i) you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country; and (ii) you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

  • Developer Contact: RetroTechCollection, [email protected]. You may contact us with any question, complaint, or claim relating to the app.

  • Third-Party Terms of Agreement: You must comply with any applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the app.

  • Third-Party Beneficiary: You and RetroTechCollection acknowledge and agree that Apple, and Apple's subsidiaries, are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms (as they relate to your licence of the iOS app), and that, upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
