History Timelines
Browsing Timelines
Access history content from the Library section of the app:
- Go to Library → History
- Choose between Platforms and Manufacturers
- Select a timeline to explore
Each timeline spans multiple decades and shows key events, product launches, and milestones for a specific platform or manufacturer.
Interactive Timeline View
The timeline interface provides several navigation tools:
Timeline Track: A horizontal track showing events plotted chronologically. Scroll left and right to move through time.
Era Markers: Coloured sections that group events into eras (e.g., "8-bit Era", "16-bit Era", "Modern Era"). Each era has a label and date range.
Zoom Controls: Zoom in for more detail on a specific period, or zoom out for a broader overview.
Minimap: A small overview bar at the bottom showing your current position within the full timeline. Click anywhere on the minimap to jump to that period.
Timeline Events
Each event on the timeline shows:
- Title: Name of the event (e.g., "Commodore 64 Released")
- Date: When it happened
- Description: Brief summary of the event
- Significance Level: How important this event was (shown visually)
- Image: A representative image where available
Click on an event to see its full details, including links to related articles and external sources.
Historical Articles
Reading Articles
Articles provide in-depth coverage of specific topics within retro technology history:
- Platform histories (e.g., "The Rise and Fall of Atari")
- Manufacturer profiles (e.g., "Commodore: From Calculators to Computers")
- Technology milestones (e.g., "The Birth of 3D Gaming")
Each article includes:
- Sections: Organised into logical sections with headings
- Images: Historical photos and diagrams with captions
- Image Gallery: Browse all article images in a lightbox view
- Sources: References to Wikipedia, official archives, news articles, and books
- Breadcrumb Navigation: Track where you are within the history section

Articles cite their sources, which may include:

- Wikidata: Structured factual data
- Official Sources: Manufacturer documentation and press releases

- See your final score at the end with a breakdown of correct and incorrect answers
Quiz Difficulty

- Medium: More specific questions requiring deeper knowledge
- Hard: Detailed questions about lesser-known facts and precise dates
Leaderboards
Each quiz has a leaderboard showing top scores:
- Your best score and rank
- Top scorers across all users
