Search & Analytics

Find items quickly and understand your collection with advanced search and detailed analytics.

The fastest way to find items:

  1. Type in the search box at the top of your collection
  2. Results appear instantly as you type
  3. Search matches:
    • Item names
    • Manufacturers
    • Model numbers
    • Descriptions
    • Tags
    • Serial numbers

Quick search uses fuzzy matching, so minor typos won't prevent finding items.

For more precise searches, use Advanced Search:

  1. Click the filter icon next to the search box
  2. The advanced search panel opens:
    • Mobile: Full-screen slide-up panel with collapsible filter sections, a sticky search header, and a sticky footer showing result count
    • Desktop: Clean two-column layout with improved text sizing
  3. Set filters across multiple criteria
  4. Click Apply to filter your collection

Available Filters:

Category: Computer, Console, Handheld, Game, Accessory, Other Manufacturer: Choose from your collection's manufacturers Condition: New, Like New, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor, Needs Repair Ownership Status: Owned, Wishlist, Sold, Loaned, Borrowed Year Range: Slider to select date range (e.g., 1980-1990) Price Range: Min and max purchase price or current value Locations: Items stored in specific locations Tags: Items with specific tags Has Images: Only items with photos Is Working: Only functional items Has Notes: Only items with descriptions

Combining Filters

You can combine multiple filters for very specific searches:

Example 1: "All Game Boy games under £20 in Like New condition"

  • Category: Game
  • Manufacturer: Nintendo
  • Condition: Like New
  • Value Range: £0-£20

Example 2: "Non-working computers from the 1980s needing repair"

  • Category: Computer
  • Year Range: 1980-1989
  • Condition: Needs Repair
  • Is Working: No

Example 3: "All items in the office closet worth over £100"

  • Location: Office Closet
  • Value Range: £100+

Saved Searches

Save frequently-used search criteria:

  1. Set up your filters
  2. Click Save Search
  3. Give it a name (e.g., "Broken items to repair", "Wishlist under £50")
  4. Click Save

Access saved searches from the Advanced Search panel. They load your filters instantly.

Managing Saved Searches:

  • Click the star icon to see all saved searches
  • Click any saved search to load it
  • Edit or delete saved searches from the menu

Search History

Your recent searches are automatically saved:

  • Last 20 searches are kept
  • Click the clock icon to see search history
  • Click any past search to run it again
  • Clear history anytime

Search Suggestions

As you type in quick search, you'll see suggestions:

  • Matching item names from your collection
  • Manufacturer names
  • Tag names
  • Category suggestions

Click any suggestion to jump directly to those items.

Analytics

Note: Analytics requires a Collector or Enthusiast subscription.

Access analytics from your collection page by clicking View Analytics.

Collection Overview

The dashboard shows your collection at a glance:

Total Items: Count of all items in your collection (excluding sold items) Total Value: Combined current value of all items Average Value: Mean value per item Most Valuable Item: Highest-value single item Collection Started: Date you added your first item Acquisition Rate: How many items you add per month on average

Value Tracking

Value Over Time Chart:

  • Line graph showing how your collection's total value has changed
  • Monthly data points
  • Hover over points to see exact values and dates
  • Useful for tracking appreciation or seeing the impact of new acquisitions

Value by Category:

  • Pie chart showing percentage of total value by category
  • Identify which categories represent the most investment
  • Click segments to see items in that category

Value Distribution:

  • Bar chart showing how many items fall into different value ranges
  • See if you have many low-value items or a few high-value items
  • Ranges: Under £10, £10-£50, £50-£100, £100-£500, £500+

Category Analytics

Item Count by Category:

  • Bar chart showing how many items in each category
  • Quickly see where your collection is focused
  • Identify categories you might want to expand

Category Completion:

  • For categories with defined sets (like console generations), see completion percentages
  • Example: "8 of 10 4th generation consoles owned (80% complete)"

Top Manufacturers:

  • Your most-collected manufacturers by item count
  • See which brands dominate your collection
  • Useful for identifying collecting patterns

Condition Distribution

Pie Chart: Shows percentage of items in each condition

  • See if you tend to collect mint items or fixer-uppers
  • Track overall collection quality

Condition Trends:

  • How condition distribution has changed over time
  • Are you upgrading items to better condition?
  • Are items degrading over time?

Acquisition Analytics

Items Acquired by Month:

  • Bar chart showing how many items you added each month
  • Identify collecting hot streaks
  • See seasonal patterns in your acquisitio

Recent Acquisitions:

  • List of items added in the last 30 days
  • Total spent in the last month
  • Average cost per item recently

Acquisition Cost vs. Current Value:

  • Scatter plot showing purchase price vs. current value for each item
  • Items above the diagonal line have appreciated
  • Items below have depreciated
  • Helps you see which purchases were good investments

Wishlist Analytics

Wishlist Size: Total items you want to acquire Wishlist Value: Estimated cost to complete wishlist (sum of target purchase prices) Wishlist Coverage: Percentage of your wishlist you've acquired Top Wishlist Categories: Categories with the most wishlist items

Collection Insights

The analytics page provides automated insights:

Trends:

  • "Your collection value has increased 15% in the last 6 months"
  • "You're acquiring items at a faster rate than last year"
  • "Consoles represent 60% of your collection value"

Recommendations:

  • "You have 5 items marked as needing repair"
  • "3 items have no photos - add photos to increase resale value"
  • "Your collection has 2 items without condition ratings"

Milestones:

  • "You're 3 items away from 100 total items!"
  • "Your collection value is approaching £10,000"
  • "You've completed 50% of your wishlist"

Custom Date Ranges

All charts can be filtered by date range:

  • Last 30 days
  • Last 6 months
  • Last year
  • All time
  • Custom range (pick specific start and end dates)

This lets you analyze specific periods, like "How did my collection grow this year?"

Exporting Analytics

Export Charts:

  • Download any chart as PNG image
  • Use in presentations or share online

Export Data:

  • Download raw analytics data as CSV
  • Includes all calculations and metrics
  • Import into Excel or Google Sheets for custom analysis

Comparing Time Periods

Compare metrics across time periods:

  • This month vs. last month
  • This year vs. last year
  • Q1 vs. Q2

See percentage changes and identify trends.

Manufacturer Deep Dive

Click any manufacturer in analytics to see:

  • All items from that manufacturer
  • Total value of that manufacturer's items
  • Average condition
  • Acquisition history
  • Most valuable item from that manufacturer

Useful for focused collecting or identifying gaps in manufacturer-specific collections.

Year-Based Analysis

Items by Year of Manufacture:

  • Histogram showing how many items from each year
  • Identify decades you collect most
  • See gaps in year coverage

Most Collected Decade:

  • Which decade do you collect most from?
  • 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, etc.

Storage Analytics

Items by Location:

  • How many items in each storage location
  • Identify locations that are getting crowded
  • Find locations with only a few items (could be consolidated)

Unlocated Items:

  • Count of items without assigned location
  • Prompt to assign locations for better organization

Search Tips

Use Quotes for exact phrases:

  • "Game Boy" finds only "Game Boy", not "Game" or "Boy" separately

Use Wildcards for partial matches:

  • Commodore* finds Commodore 64, Commodore 128, etc.

Combine Terms with AND/OR:

  • Search automatically uses AND between terms
  • Nintendo 1980s finds Nintendo items from the 1980s

Exclude Terms with minus sign:

  • Console -Sony finds consoles except Sony ones

Search Specific Fields:

  • manufacturer:Nintendo - Only search manufacturer field
  • tag:needs-repair - Only search tags
  • year:1985 - Only items from 1985
