Stripe Connect for Sellers
To receive payments from marketplace sales, you need to set up Stripe Connect. This connects your bank account so you can receive payouts directly.
What is Stripe Connect?
Stripe Connect allows you to receive money from marketplace sales directly to your bank account. It's:
- Secure: Bank-level security and encryption
- Required: Must be set up before you can sell
- Free: No setup fees or monthly charges
- Global: Supports 40+ countries
Requirements
To Set Up Stripe Connect
You need:
- To be 18+ years old
- A valid government ID
- A bank account in your name
- Your personal details (name, address, date of birth)
- Your tax information (National Insurance number in UK)

Before You Start
Make sure you have:
- Access to your email (verification required)
- Your ID ready (passport, driver's license, or national ID)
- Your bank account details
- 10-15 minutes to complete the process
Setting Up Stripe Connect
Step 1: Start Onboarding
- Go to Settings → Marketplace → Stripe Connect
- Click Set Up Stripe Connect
- You'll be redirected to Stripe's secure onboarding
Step 2: Provide Personal Information
Stripe will ask for:
- Full legal name (as it appears on your ID)
- Date of birth
- Home address
- Phone number
- Email address (can be different from your RTC Collector email)
Why: Required by financial regulations to verify your identity.
Step 3: Business Information
Even if you're an individual seller:
- Business type: Select "Individual" (unless you have a registered business)
- Business description: "Retro technology collectibles"
- Website (optional): Your RTC Collector profile URL
For business sellers:
- Registered business name
- Business registration number
- Business address
- Business type (Ltd, LLP, Sole Trader, etc.)
Step 4: Bank Account Details
Provide your bank account for payouts:
- Account holder name (must match Stripe account name)
- Sort code (UK) or routing number (US)
- Account number
- Bank name (optional, auto-detected)
Important: This must be YOUR bank account. You can't use someone else's account.
Step 5: Identity Verification
Upload a photo of your ID:
- UK: Passport, driver's license, or national ID card
- US: Driver's license, passport, or state ID
- EU: Passport or national ID
Tips:
- Photo should be clear and in focus
- All four corners visible
- No glare or shadows
- Information legible
Stripe typically verifies within minutes, but can take up to 24 hours.
Step 6: Tax Information
UK sellers:
- National Insurance number
- Self-assessment UTR (if registered)
US sellers:
- Social Security Number or EIN
- W-9 form information
EU sellers:
- VAT number (if registered)
- Tax ID number
Why: Required by law for tax reporting.
Step 7: Confirmation
Once approved:
- Email confirmation sent
- Stripe Connect badge appears on your profile
- You can now create marketplace listings
If additional information is needed, Stripe will email you.

Your application is under review:
- Usually takes a few minutes
- Can take up to 24 hours
- You'll receive an email when complete
Verified
You're ready to sell:
- Stripe Connect active
- Can create marketplace listings
- Will receive payouts after sales
Additional Information Required
Stripe needs more details:
- Check your email for instructions
- Provide requested information
- Re-submit for verification
Common reasons:
- ID photo unclear
- Address doesn't match ID
- Bank account details incorrect
How Payouts Work
When You Get Paid
Timeline:
- Buyer pays for item
- Funds held by Stripe until delivery confirmed
- 2 business days after confirmation, payout initiated
- 2-7 business days to reach your bank
- Total: 4-9 business days after delivery
For trades:
- Both parties must confirm receipt
- Same payout timeline applies
Payout Amounts
What you receive:
- Sale price minus platform fees
- Platform fees: 5% (Collector) or 2.5% (Enthusiast)
- Stripe processing fees: 1.4% + £0.20 per transaction
Example (Collector tier, £100 sale):
- Sale price: £100.00
- Platform fee (5%): -£5.00
- Stripe fee (1.4% + £0.20): -£1.60
- You receive: £93.40
Example (Enthusiast tier, £100 sale):
- Sale price: £100.00
- Platform fee (2.5%): -£2.50
- Stripe fee (1.4% + £0.20): -£1.60
- You receive: £95.90
Payout Schedule
Standard:
- Initiated 2 business days after delivery confirmation
- No minimum payout amount
- Separate payout for each transaction
Daily payouts:
- Available once you've completed 10+ successful transactions
- Combines multiple transactions into one daily payout
- Usually arrives 2-7 days after payout initiated
Viewing Payouts
- Go to Settings → Marketplace → Payouts
- See all past and pending payouts
- Download payout reports for tax purposes

- Go to dashboard.stripe.com
- Log in with the email you used for Stripe Connect
- View all transactions, payouts, and reports

Update details:

Fees and Pricing
Platform Fees
Depends on your subscription tier:
- Hobbyist: 7.5% per transaction
- Collector: 5% per transaction
- Enthusiast: 2.5% per transaction
Stripe Processing Fees
Fixed for all tiers:
- UK cards: 1.4% + £0.20
- EU cards: 1.4% + £0.20
- International cards: 2.9% + £0.20
- Currency conversion: Additional 2%
No Hidden Fees
We never charge:
- Setup fees
- Monthly fees
- Payout fees
- Account maintenance fees
Tax Reporting
UK Sellers
Under £1,000/year:
- Covered by trading allowance
- No need to report to HMRC
- Keep records anyway
Over £1,000/year:
- Must report on self-assessment tax return
- Register as self-employed
- Pay income tax on profits
Over £85,000/year:
- Must register for VAT
- Charge VAT on sales
- Submit quarterly VAT returns

- 1099-K form (US sellers over $20,000)

Common Issues
"Additional Information Required"
Solution:
- Check email from Stripe
- Click the link provided
- Submit requested information
- Wait for verification (usually instant)
"Bank Account Couldn't Be Verified"
Try:
- Double-check account number and sort code
- Ensure account is in your name
- Use a personal account (not business, unless registered business)
- Try a different bank account
"Identity Verification Failed"
Try:
- Upload clearer photo of ID
- Ensure all corners visible
- Use a different ID type
- Contact Stripe support
Payouts Not Arriving
Check:
- Bank account details correct in Stripe Dashboard
- Payout status (pending vs. paid)
- Expected arrival date (can take 7 days)
- Bank account active and accepting deposits
Still missing?
- Contact Stripe support via dashboard
- They can track the payout
Updating Your Information
Changing Bank Account
- Log into Stripe Dashboard
- Go to Settings → Bank accounts
- Add new bank account
- Verify with test deposits (may be required)
- Set as default
- Remove old account
Updating Personal Details
- Stripe Dashboard → Settings → Business details
- Update information
- Re-verify if required (for major changes)
Changing Business Type
Email Stripe support - may require new verification.
Disabling Stripe Connect
If you no longer want to sell:
- Settings → Marketplace → Stripe Connect
- Click Disconnect
- Confirm disconnection
What happens:
- Active listings are removed
- Can't create new listings
- Pending payouts still arrive
- Transaction history preserved
- Can reconnect anytime
Note: Complete all pending transactions before disconnecting.

Do I need a business account? No, individual sellers can use personal bank accounts. Only register as a business if you have a registered company.
How long does verification take? Usually instant, but can take up to 24 hours. Complex cases may take 1-3 business days.
Can I use someone else's bank account? No, the bank account must be in your name (or your registered business name).
Is there a minimum payout amount? No, you receive payouts for each sale regardless of amount.
Can I have multiple Stripe accounts? No, Stripe allows one account per person/business. Using multiple accounts violates their terms.
What if I move countries? Contact Stripe support to update your country. May require new verification.
